For my EMP 355 class, we have to think of something that we’ve always wanted to learn how to do and then practice it throughout the semester. My first thought was “what the heck am I going to do?!”. For about a week or two later, I still had trouble making a decision. I knew that cake decorating was an option, but I couldn’t decide if thats exactly what I wanted to work on for the entire semester. And then my mom forced me to just decide on cake decorating so I could finally start working (I have a little trouble committing to projects like this obviously).
How do we make the icing?
I found that wilton is the best website for anything to do with cakes! They have everything you need to know on their website, from techniques to recipes, and they also have a youtube channel that shows you how to properly ice a cake and other techniques. I spent hours looking through the website and learning tons of new things!
I found that the recipe taken from the Wilton website is the easiest, most delicious one I have tried and my mom refuses us to try a different one; “Keanna, we can’t wreck perfect”… true mom!
- 1/2 cup of solid vegetable shortening
- 1/2 (1 block) of butter or margarine (softened)
- 1 teaspoon of clear vanilla extract
- 4 cups of sifted confectionner’s sugar
- 2 tablespoons of milk (or water will work, but mix in sections when using water)
